It is said that Governor O'Malley has a promising signature to sign but won't be put into effect in 2013. There are seven gay members in the House and Delegate Maggie McIntosh gives her story of coming out as a lesbian when the bill was being discussed.
26 Democrats and 41 Republicans voted against the bill.
“Same-sex marriage is wrong,” Delegate Emmett Burns (D-Baltimore County), told the chamber before the vote. “I believe that people who are gay have a right to be that, but the word ‘marriage’ should not be attached.”

I support gay marriage. It is not the government's decision to decide who can and cannot get married. It is a simple freedom that should be allowed to all Americans. By not condoning gay marriage, the government is essentially discriminating as it did in the mid-1900's. One day, this bias will be lifted from the courts and marriage and love will be free. I look forward to that day.
